Check out the man Prince Ea recapping the year in this new track, complete with animated video. Look for this shit floating around in 2010 and look for Prince Ea rising high.

Props to the dude on his past, present, and future success. It's been great being able to work with him on the radio show and just kick it from time to time around town.

I'm gonna keep following him. You should too.

Peace. And happy New Year.

"Gucci! Gucci! Gucci! Alright, we know your name, bro."

Jay Electronica – I made this because i have loved Michael Jackson all of my life. All of my memories from about 5 years old or so (which is about as far back as i remember with some ease) can be tied to or associated with or landmarked by some musical contribution of Michael Jackson at that time. From then, all the way to now. He is a dark fingerprint on a very large part of who I am and who most of the people I know personally are. And thats why i posted this picture along with this song . The response to this song is amazing, and overwhelming and i appreciate all of the love and support it is recieving from everywhere. And i dedicate all of this positive energy toward a Great Hero of mine (although not perfect) who has performed many miracles in his physical life and who has and will be for many moons continue to be a glowing light in the dark for those who see something better inside of themselves and have the will and desire to pursue it. Evolution. May our good works be recorded and duplicated, and may our sins be recorded and forgiven. Amen

This isn't an official remix, but it is pretty dope.

Hasan Insane took the sample that Just Blaze used in the original "Exhibit C" (which you NEED to buy on iTunes or Amazon right now) and reworked it a bit. The drums are a little different, which I think is cool as hell. They've got a nice rolling beat. He also drops a Nas verse into the track at the absolute perfect time.

Check it out.

Support Jay Elect and purchase the Exhibit A and Exhibit C EPs now on iTunes and Amazon.

Cudi recently performed some new stuff from his next album, Cudder. No clue on when this one is supposed to come out, but he has dropped quite a bit of info regarding it, plus some tracks and freestyle that might make it on the disc. For instance...

A lot of people think he sounds like crap in these vids though.

Kweli and Hi-Tek are working hard to put forward a good product for their new album Revolutions Per Minute. They already posted one track from the disc, which features Mos Def, Jay Electronica, and J. Cole (CHECK THAT OUT HERE).

Now, as if that didn't get you stoked enough, they've announced plans for a new mixtape that will drop by New Year's. (Speaking of Jay Electronica -- he ALSO has new material, Act II: Patents of Nobility, that he promised would hit your ears by New Years...actually, it was supposed to drop on X-Mas, but Jay Elect and producer Just Blaze took that back late X-Mas Eve night.)

Anyway, the new Reflection Eternal mixtape will be called The Re:Union. Look for it by Thursday. (But don't get your hopes up on that new Jay Elect just yet. Just sayin from experience. Dude is like Lupe with release dates.)

DOOM's (formerly MF Doom's) acclaimed solo release Operation: Doomsday, which has been out of print since 2001, will be reissued in the new year. No word on an official date for the project, just the assurance that it will be out sometime soon.

The (deluxe) reissue will be complete with revised artwork by Jason Jagel, who designed the art for MM...Food? in 2004. According to Stones Throw Records, the only thing holding back a reissue thus far was holdups on the rights to the work. If you're familiar with the album, you know that the original art was basically just a slightly modified version of a Marvel Comics image of the villain Dr. Doom.

^The original cover art for Operation: Doomsday

The revised art will be done in the style of MM...Food? and will include extensive paintings by Jagel. Check it out...

by Jason Jagel done in the style of his MM...Food? paintings

In addition to the revamped artwork for the project, the Operation: Doomsday reissue will include DOOM's self-picked "definitive tracklisting" for the album, as well as some other special goodies including trading cards.

Here's what Juxtapose magazine had to say about it:
“Fresh off his first solo shows in Milan and Copenhagen, San Francisco based artist Jason Jagel is riding a high of acclaim. Not only is he featured in our upcoming January 2010 issue, but he sent us over a sneak peak at the painting he made for the new deluxe MF DOOM OPERATION:DOOMSDAY lunch box reissue. ‘I'm working with Jeff Jank at Stones Throw to design it for Traffic Entertainment,’ Jason tells us. ‘We're making trading cards too. Not sure when it's due out, (sometime) in '10.’”
As expected, this project looks amazing.

DOOM has been hard at work in the scene since his recent release Born Like This. He's currently on a mini tour, coheadlining with Mos Def in Chicago, New York City, and Toronto.

The villain is back with a vengeance.

A new track off Lupe's upcoming album LASERS leaked recently. While it was at first unclear as to who leaked the track or why it was released early, Lupe has cleared up the issue:

So, for this reason, I won't be posting the track. However, for those of you still determined to hear it, it's getting around and hard to miss.

Support good music. Buy the album when it drops.

I was worried for a little while that this project wouldnt see the light of day for one reason or another but thankfully it looks like we are only going to have to wait a couple more months for it now with the rumoured release date set to be in March 2010.
The boys from Felt want to wish you happy holidays with this creepy promo vid.

Look for Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez in stores now.

Already I've got an update on the track mentioned HERE.

The track, which was previously untitled, will officially be called "Just Begun."

Reflection Eternal's new album, Revolution Per Minute, drops February 2010. Catch the download link below.
Happy Holidays.

Just for you on X-Mas eve, I've got three (count em - THREE) new drops from Jay Electronica.

FIRST is the new joint he did with Mos Def and J Cole on the new Reflection Eternal album. The tracks is still untitled as of now, but it's amazing nonetheless. I originally posted this last week (check it out HERE), but this is for those of you who continue to sleep on this stuff.

SECOND is an even newer track. This one is just Jay Elect and Mos, produced by Just Blaze. I'm assuming it's something from their new group, Center Edge Territory, which also features New Orleans rapper Curren$y. It's just a radio rip, but it kills, as expected.

THIRD is a video interview of Jay Electronica and Just Blaze on Toca Tuesdays. In it, they discuss Jay's new mixtape (which drops TOMORROW, see HERE for details), he introduces and drops the tracks available above, performs some new and old stuff live, and talks some about features on his new work.

Merry X-Mas, bitches.

PS: Props to OKP for dropping most of this first. Werd.
^Black Star: History in the making.

MTV just dropped this 30 second preview of Mos Def's new video.

The track is called "History" featuring Talib Kweli and is just one brilliant piece of his Grammy-nominated album Ecstatic.

Buy the whole damn disc.

Kinda looks like a Levi Jeans commercial.

Nike dropped another puppet holiday commercial. This one is a sequel to Blitzin's (aka Lupe Fiasco's) rap. [Click here to check out that one.]

The video features KRS-One as Chris Kingle himself.

It's going down.

Oooooh shit.

Jay Electronica drops his next EP, Act II, on X-Mas Day. If this is any indication of how epic it will be, then get ready for some serious shit.

From 2dopeboyz:
If some of you aren’t aware yet, Lupe recently announced he’s not dropping Friend Of The People on X-Mas. Sucks, right? But that sting should only be temporary, as Jay called in to Shade45 to announce that Act II: Patents Of Nobility will drop that day. Now go ahead and change your draws. Props to Nav.
Happy Holidays.

Say wha?? This is huge news.

Mos Def is officially the fifth member of the Gorillaz as a character named SunMoonStars (get it?). The first track completed so far is called "Sweepstakes." They've already started working on music and more is in reportedly the works.

Mos joining the Gorillaz means a few things...

1. Mos Def is already working on new stuff after his breath-taking, Grammy-nominated album Ecstatic.
2. The Gorillaz are working on new stuff FINALLY!
3. Jamie Hewlett (the artist behind the Gorillaz) isn't bored with the characters anymore, which is reportedly half of the reason that they stopped making music after Demon Days in the first place.
4. We get to see a NEW character join the team, probably with revised artwork for the rest.
5. We might actually be done hearing Del on Gorillaz tracks (don't get me wrong, he kills em, but it's time for some new talent).

Props to DJ Semtex for bringing this news out. Just watch the interview...

According to SPIN, the new disc is titled Plastic Beach and will feature Snoop, Lou Reed, the Syrian National Orchestra (!), and Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees in addition to the Mighty Mos.
"[It's] sort of about the mythical aspects of Britain," Albarn told the Guardian of the album, the follow-up to 2005's multi-platinum-selling Demon Days, due next year via EMI. "Obviously, because it's Gorillaz we've moved it to a different place, but it still maintains a lot of that melancholy."

"I've tried to connect pop sensibility with trying to make people understand the essential melancholy of buying a ready-made meal in loads of plastic packaging… that detritus that accompanies the most essential thing in people's lives these days -- celebrity and voyeurism."
(Just a sidenote - if you had no idea who these people are, what would you think of that post title?)

Back when Kanye West "decided" to leave Lady Gaga's Fame Kills Tour because of "schedule conflicts," nobody believed him. Nobody believed him because everybody figured pretty quickly that Gaga kicked him off the tour because of how he acted like a bitch at the MTV awards with Taylor Swift.

Now, another G.O.O.D. music star has "decided" to leave Gaga's tour because of "scheduling conflicts." This time it's Kid Cudi, who, if you didn't know, recently had an outburst of his own on tour. (Check out the story and video HERE).

Looks like Gaga won't associate with those who let who let their fame go to their heads and start fucking with other people.

She's made it very clear: Fame Kills.

...The verdict is still out on when she'll kick her own crazy ass off the tour.

Much thanks to the anonymous commenter on the Georgia Anne Muldrow post. I'm going to check out that other album for sure. AND, since you happened to comment on Erykah's new album, here's some info. from OkayPlayer that I for whatever reason never got around to posting the other day...

They got the lowdown an a top secret, invite only listening session for Miss Badu's newest album New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh.

The new album sounds amazing, as expected. Unfortunately, there's no mention of a Jay Elect appearance. Maybe he'll be in the liner notes again.

If you haven't yet checked out New Amerykah Part I, it's definitely worth the listen. I've got it on vinyl if you know me and want a preview.

Anyway, here's what OKP had to say on the new LP...

Y’all gotta keep this on the ultra DL, but somewhere last night, in a famous recording studio in Downtown Manhattan (let’s just call it Chung King Studios), a secret listening session for Erykah Badu's new album New Amerykah, Part II: Return of the Ankh went down and OKP got the exclusive Evite. That’s right, we got dibs on some classified info. Like pack your cell phones and recorders tight in these zip lock bags type of info (no joke). So, though we can’t and wouldn’t publish an audio leak off the album (for the sake of the incandescent Ms. Badu who put it best last night when she pleaded, “Let a bitch make some money!”), here’s the next best thing… a written leak…yay!

Here’s what we know:

Return of the Ankh is scheduled for a late February release, set for Feb. 23rd.

9th Wonder, James Poyser, Georgia Anne Muldrow, ?uestlove, Sa-Ra, Madlib, Karriem Riggins, and the late J Dilla assist on the production side.

• Socio-political artist, Emek, is slated to do the cover art again.

(Needless bullet point) … The album is

Here’s the tracklisting:

1. 20 Feet Tall
Produced by 9th Wonder, though the piano work on the track would make you think otherwise…

2. Window Seat
The train/bus/airplane riders’ mellowed out anthem. Produced by The Randy Watson Experience (?uestlove and James Poyser.)

3. Agitation
A reincarnation of "Soldier," which is a reincarnation of "Danger," which is in reincarnation of "Other Side of the Game"… all done so splendidly.

4. Get Money
Think Junior Mafia meets
Billie Holiday

5. Don’t Be Long
Liked it

6. Love
Liked it

7. Umm Hmm
A one-minute teaser of the “Call Tyrone” blend

8. Fall in Love
Alicia Keys' Unbreakable loop is politely borrowed (by Karriem Riggins) and grooved out along with a classic Notorious B.I.G. couplet.

9. Incense
Don’t remember it much.

10. Out My Mind Just in Time (Part 1)
It’s the “new” "Green Eyes," movements and all.

11. Out My Mind Just in Time (Part 2)
Movement #2. Badu also has movement number #3, but she said she “had to keep something for herself.”

Leak Track: Jump In The Air and Stay There
Features vocals from Bilal and Lil' Wayne. Dope song, let's hope it's still on the album.

* There are supposedly 10... yes, 10 different versions of this song, all with different (10 different to be exact) emcees featuring on the song.

Ms. Badu’s back everyone and you can’t tell anyone else, ok? Pinky swear?

Following Stephen Colbert's excellent rendition of the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys track "Empire State of Mind" (see it here), it looks like DJ Green Lantern decided to jump on board with his own remix.

Check out his new mix below, featuring Raekwon the Chef, C-N-N, Styles P, and Alicia Keys still on the hook.

Colbert kills it!
(First off, just want to address the massive amount of Mos Def posts recently. What can I say? The dude has just been bringing it for the past couple of months. Might have something to do with his Grammy Nominations.)

Now, speaking of Mos Def, he mentioned recently that he got on a new track from the new Reflection Eternal album. Joining him on the track are none other than Jay Electronica and J Cole.

Kweli was fine enough to bless fans with a preview of the track at a DJ set he dished out recently.
Nice. (ALSO, that remix of "Get By" is amazing! Catch it here.)

Each verse is killer. I can't pick a favorite.
This album is gonna be huge.

As mentioned a month or so ago, RZA has a new art project coming out. So far, every bit of news about the work (check here for instance) has been incredibly vague. That doesn't change here, but we do get a few new insights into the process behind it.

Also, the interview touches on some interesting points from his new book, "The Tao of Wu." If you haven't read it yet, check it out from the library -- it's an easy read with some entertaining stories and surprisingly solid insights. Also, RZA expounds on his rings (one of them is a golden Chewbacca!), his relationship with fans, and his thoughts on maybe retiring soon. Looks like the album he's been sitting on for some years, "The Cure" (which he talks about in his new book) might finally come out sometime in the near future as the final album by the RZArector.

Check the interview for more.

ALSO, check out RZA on Tavis Smiley.
Or should I say Bapeshit?

...and then they shut down the entire show I guess.

From XXL Online:
"The Man on the Moon has landed… on an unexpected fan’s face.

According to MTV News, the incident occurred during Cudder’s set at the Commodore Ballroom last Saturday (December 12)—a solo show for the Cleveland rapper, who is currently on tour with Lady Gaga. In the YouTube clip, viewers can see Cudi leaping from the stage and striking a man in the crowd, after a wallet is thrown at him. [Watch Below]

TMZ is reporting that the alleged victim will not be pressing charges. “I’m not upset, I’m not going to be that person,” Michael Sharpe told the gossip site. “I just want to meet him and be like, ‘I’m the guy you punched.’”

According to Sharpe, he wasn’t the one that initially threw something at the G.O.O.D. Music artist. He says it all started when someone behind him originally chucked the wallet onstage. Cudi then threw it back into the audience and Sharpe caught it. He explained that since it wasn’t his, he launched it back and that’s what prompted Cudi to attack him.

As of press time reps for Kid Cudi were unavailable for comment. —Max G"
Watch out, Sharpe. Cudi's watchin you.

Somebody throws a wallet at Kid Cudi and he wigs out on them. Anybody else find the symbolism there irresistibly hilarious?
If you listened to Mos's Def's the Ecstatic (and you should have), you'll recognize this one. Georgia performed it on one of Mos's tracks of the same name.

Her original version is a bit chiller, but still powerful. The video is just as soulful as the track. Got a nice 70s flair to it too.

Check it out below. And catch the Mos Def version after that.

If you haven't checked out Lupe's revamped website, do so now at

Now, on to the update. If there were any doubts or confusion, this should pretty much clear that up for you.

PS: Fuck, looks like LASERS won't drop this year. I was hopeful, but I guess it's expected as pretty much every studio release Lupe has planned has been released late, delayed, postponed, or canceled thus far in his musical career. Shit, even some of his mixtapes dropped late.

Hi guys...Lupe Here...

There seems to be a lot...A LOT...of misconception and misguided info floating around the for the sake of clarity and so that everyone (HOPEFULLY) will be on the same page let me reaffirm and debunk some things and just turn down the general noise that is surrounding Lupe Fiasco...thats me...

My Third Album is Titled "LASERS" not "WE ARE LASERS" or "LUPE.N.D."...

"LASERS" is NOT my last and final album...

"LASERS" does NOT drop in 2009...

"SOLAR MIDNITE" is NOT a single off of "LASERS"...Nor was it intended to be apart of "LASERS" project...

"SOLAR MIDNITE" was exclusively done at the request of the Twilight: New Moon Team to be apart of their film, motion picture soundtrack and as a vehicle to promote the film...NOT TO PROMOTE "LASERS"...

I produced "SOLAR MIDNITE"

I'm not SELLING OUT by doing a song for NEW MOON...

People thought I "SOLD OUT" when I did "Kick, Push"...

I've done ROCK or ROCK-like records on all of my previous albums...i.e. "The Instrumental" "Hello/Goodbye"...

Enemy Of The State was NOT, NOT, NOT meant to be an stop (to the ungrateful among you) TREATING it like one...

Its more noise out there and stupid rumor but I really don't have the stamina...

Yup, you read it right. MF DOOM and Mos Def will be co-headlining a show in Chicago at the Congress Theater on January 29th!

Props to Octavius for pointing this show out to me. I already bought my ticket and I just found out three minutes ago.
Now, who's down for a Megabus trip to Chicago on January 29th?

Check out the official release below.
I'm so fucking excited.

FRIDAY JANUARY 29th 2010 the super-villain of hip-hop DOOM will come to wreak havoc in Chicago with his latest partner in crime… MOS DEF! The proper authorities have been notified…consider yourself warned! Sources also say MIKE RELM has joined the crew on this night of music and mayhem.

DOOM is coming. Formerly MF DOOM, born in London, raised in Long Island, DOOM (Daniel Dumile) has been one of the most unique and imaginative sounds in hip hop since he was ZevLoveX in KMD. After band tragedy and getting dropped from Elektra label due to controversial art direction, Zev went underground swearing revenge against the industry that crossed him. As the legend grew, a mysterious masked figure arose surfacing as MF DOOM and went on to release critically acclaimed Operation: Doomsday, Take me to Your Leader album as King Geedorah, and Vaudeville Villain under yet another alias, Viktor Vaughn. MF DOOM’s Mmm..Food (Rhymesayers Ent.) launched him into hip hop notoriety which led to full album collaborations with other groundbreaking artists such as Dangerdoom with Danger Mouse and Madvillain with Madlib. Ever evolving, there’s no telling what madness DOOM will bring, recently releasing Born Like This earlier in 2009.

An unlikely accomplice in villainy, MOS DEF has been sighted meeting and performing with DOOM around the world! From the musical hotbed of Brooklyn, Mos first came to prominence as half the hip hop group Black Star with Talib Kweli in the mid-nineties. His first solo album Black on Both Sides was an instant classic with hits like “Little Miss Fat Booty.” His recent album, The Ecstatic, was praised by critics and fans, welcoming him back to the forefront of hip hop from his time away in major films.

FOR CHICAGO ONLY, MIKE RELM joins the crew with his one-of-a-kind live show that blends video, audio, turntablism and crowd-interaction. His innovative performances earned him a spot touring with the performance-art group Blue Man Group.

Chicago’s own Qwel and Maker, BBU, The Comeups, Rude 1, Trew, Demchuk and RTC have signed on for support, even as they continue to deny any knowledge of DOOM’s whereabouts.

We’ll even have live LAZER GRAFFITI demonstration in the lobby by Kid Static!

This event is brought to you by Cold Grums, React Presents, Congress Theatre and Silver Wrapper.

On the eve of copping his Grammy Nominations, Mos Def was in the UK and passed through 1xtra. Mos is one of the most important HipHop artists. Truthfully he could have gone the big business rapper route years ago, but he’s stayed true to himself and is purely focussed on the art of HipHop.

For me, Mos Def is one of the G.O.A.T.S. A legendary MC who can put together a hot album, but tear the arse out of any MC, his stage shows are truly unique.

This is the first part of the interview. Check out the full interview tonight on my 1xtra show.

Mos talks on:

*His approach to making albums.
*That Mos/J Cole/Jay Electronica/Talib Kweli collabo.
*The genius of Slick Rick.
*Mos Def vs. Hollywood
*Turning down a role in ‘Tropic Of Thunder’.

and more…..

I'm so ready for Jay Elect to start dropping albums.
The wait is on...still.
For everybody down with Lupe Fiasco, here's a new video for you. Unfortunately, the track in question is the one Lupe recorded for the soundtrack of the new Twilight flick. His first commercial track.

It's a bit different from his usual stuff.

What do you think?

Say wha??

Yep, you heard right. Here's one more track from

Jim Jones' solo shit is just that -- shit. However, his skills seem to be fitting in quite nicely on Damon Dash's projects (he killed it on the Blakroc album). I guess he's just one of those dudes that sounds good when somebody else comes up with the concept.

This track will be featured on producer Ski's 24 Hour Karate School mixtape. The mixtape's name is the same that Mos Def came up with in reference to Dame Dash's studio, which was home to many creative hip-hop and blues minds during the creation of the Blakroc project.

Check it.
