Via DDotomen:
A few weeks back rumors began circulating of Pusha T taking his talents to G.O.O.D. music as a solo act, while that’s still a great situation for the younger Thornton brother, I have a reason to believe the duo will be joining Kanye’s imprint together. I had the opportunity to listen to songs from an upcoming album from an artist which makes mention of Clipse signing with G.O.O.D. music. I don’t like to keep building hype and keep things lingering or waiting for “official press releases” so if this post disappears you know why.

This is the first image to leak from the shoot. Dude does not fuck around with jewelry. Clearly.

Here's how the NYTimes describes the video (in a very fucking polite manner if I do say so myself... #Mr.West):
In a coming video for his single “Power” that was created by the artist Marco Brambilla, Mr. West is seen standing imposingly with a heavy chain around his neck. As Mr. West raps, the camera slowly zooms out in one continuous, unedited take to reveal him in a classical structure, surrounded by female attendants who are partly or entirely nude; some kneel before him on all fours, others wear devil horns and still others are suspended upside down from the ceiling. The sword of Damocles hangs precariously over Mr. West’s head, and behind him an unseen executioner is preparing to strike him with a blade.
Mr. West, Mr. Fresh, Mr. By-his-self-he-so-impressed.

Now this is more like it. It's a full version (as opposed to the snippet), but it still has lame tags in it. Whatev.

Looks like Cudi's album got pushed back...again. This time you can expect it in October.

We'll see.

From the Dice Music Group:
When we were putting together The IN Crowd mixtape, we knew we wanted to include one of the productions J. Cardim contributed to ODB’s posthumous album around 2005/2006. We ended up going with “All Of The Time” (track 11 on The IN Crowd) but we wanted to let the people hear the other one.

Our friend Dame Grease also produced an early version of this song and can be heard doing ad-libs on the chorus.

It’s a shame this music didn’t come out when it should have, R.I.P. to one of Hip-Hop’s greatest artists & characters.

Not to be left in the shadow of his older brother Madlib, Oh No is back with new beats and a fresh collaboration. Alongside Alchemist, Oh No has formed the duo Gangrene and prepared a new release.

Catch the first single below, as well as the tracklisting for the new album, Gutter Water.

After shutting down Facebook earlier this week, Kanye moved to another social networking site to perform material from his forthcoming (recently reintroduced as untitled) album.

What's next for Ye? I'm guessing the headquarters of MySpace and then maybe a porn site.

Oh well.
Got zero dollars to spare and an open Thursday night. We got you covered.

Come catch DJ Needles and Black Spade alongside 18andCounting (who I caught last night at 2720 - fuckin. wild.), Dirty Lent and Alex Petrowsky this Thursday (tomorrow) at the Gramophone.

Today's the day, folks. The Waitin for the DJ Live Mixtape is finally here!

It's comprised of a series of live freestyles, remixes, and exclusive tracks from some of St. Louis' most prominent hip-hop artists. It's unique, not only because it is the first (that I know of) completely live recorded mixtape, but also because it is made up of completely spontaneous performances, with every track only getting one take. It definitely has a live studio spontaneous vibe that couldn't really be captured any other way.

This project is a collaborative effort between Waitin for the DJ, The U (UMSL Student Radio Station), Ghetto Blastic, The Soulition DJs, MadeMonarchs, and The Frozen Food Section.

Featured artists:
Prince Ea
Black Spade
QB of Family Affair
Tef Poe

Jabari Pendelton
Bryant Stewart

Various people close to the Haitian-born singer Wyclef Jean have suggested that he may soon be running for President of his home country. With years of activist experience under his belt and a strong backing in the country (not to mention the financial resources necessary for such a major campaign), Wyclef appears aimed to take the next step.

Despite the fact that his representatives have firmly stating otherwise...
“Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward. At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president.”

Wyclef himself told CNN recently that he had filled out all the necessary paperwork to place his bid, but has not yet officially decided on whether or not to act on this impulse.

Stay tuned for details.

Wyclef's official campaign song...

After years of movie acting, Common finally landed a steady television gig.

AMC's newest show, "Hell On Wheels", will feature the Chicago MC in a prominent role. Com will play Elam, "a half black, half white, freed slave hoping to find work" (RapBasement).

According to AMC's VP of Programming, Joel Stillerman:
“Common brings a layered intensity to a very complex role. This part required someone who can transcend the stereotypes of the period and bring the character to life in a truly unique way, and he brings that.”

The day her new/unreleased track leaked (catch it HERE), Lauryn Hill took the stage at the FESPAD Festival in Rwanda. Check it out...

St. Louis native (Chicago resident) Orie has been making the rounds. Check out the second installment of his What a Black Man Wants mini-series to see exactly what it is he's been up to.
(Hopefully he's been working on that Features EP joint...jussayin. Haha!)

What A Black Man Wants: Episode 2 from ORIE on Vimeo.

Spotted at Distortion2Static.

Lupe's former producer/friend Prolyfic recently went on rather scathing and lengthy Twitter tirade (and not just lengthy by Twitter standards. I'm talking wordy as fuck.) on why he feels Lupe Fiasco failed his music career and who exactly he let down along the way.

Be your own judge.

  • RT @TheLupENDBlog #WeWantLasers Petition to Atlantic Records <>
  • Some folks might want to turn their head, bcuz I have some choice words for this whole #WeWantLazers “movement” & @LupeFiasco as an artist
  • Ok FIRST off I really like @LupeFiasco as an artist.. I enjoy listenin to his music.. when it’s available to listen to… that being said…
  • This nigga @LupeFiasco really be on some scared of failure as shit… He is his own worst enemy… and he’s fucking up ROYALLY
  • I mean where do I begin? how does Such a talented individual like @LupeFiasco become such a utter disappointment? And it’s his own doing
  • 1st u penalize ur fans for WANTING ur music..u make a short mixtape.. then when ur material gets leaked u throw a temper tantrum @LupeFiasco
  • What kind of artist PENALIZES fans for someone leaking they music?!?! you should be happy people WANT your music @LupeFiasco
  • In a state where everyone is rising to success by giving away free music (Drake, Wayne, Gucci Etc.) @LupeFiasco chooses to hoard his music
  • Which results in what? People forgetting about you! which is why @LupeFiasco did not make ANY lists of ANYTHING! When he should be top 3
  • - Ain’t no release date on #WeWantLazers cuz ain’t NO FUCKING HITS on it! cuz @LupeFiasco REFUSES to makes hits.. not that he cant.. he wont!
  • it’s like u forgot what got u here in the first damn place! u was set up to be “The One” not a reflection of what ur name means @LupeFiasco
  • There is NO reason why u shouldn’t be mentioned in the same conversations as Drake or wayne etc… Ppl say “who?” when u mention @LupeFiasco
  • & why do they do that? cuz @LupeFiasco is to damn scared to fail! he lacks the HEART to take a risk! So he’s had a careeer of playin it safe So @LupeFiasco figure he’ll appease this crowd.. u know that crowd over there.. they’ll ALWAYS love him, and he won’t have to feel pressured
  • A fan of @LupeFiasco’s says: “if he really got w/some great songwriters, producers, & explored all his options he could make a dope album
  • Just in case you think I’m making this up…
  • But @LupeFiasco is not gonna do that… he’d rather throw temper tantrums and toss complaints about making “what the industry wants”
  • But @LupeFiasco’s fans DO NOT want to hear all that crap man.. all they want is the music.. fuck what you talkin bout dude.. do yo job
  • Jim Johnson didn’t want to waste a HIT on @LupeFiasco bcuz he INTENTIONALLY associates himself wit Losin..I mean Lazing..Loser Lazer #Shrugs
  • An to be truthfully honest.. If @LupeFiasco every made the “Great American Rap Album” or whatever, it will probably be his best album ever!
  • As an old former friend.. I’m disappointed.. as a current fan.. i’m disappointed.. enuff is enuff.. get off the bullshit @LupeFiasco
  • I knew the moment @LupeFiasco let them ppl over at #OKP embrace him.. I knew it was over..his music changed & he placed a ceiling on himself
  • All that Japanese Cartoon shit is cool or whatever but DAWG that’s not what Chilly put you here to do @LupeFiasco And you KNOW that!
  • How you go from being endorsed by Jay-z, to basically no public affiliation whatsoever?!?!? @LupeFiasco You spose to be killin it G
  • Lyrically ain’t nobody touching this nigga @LupeFiasco but who cares? cuz nobody know! cuz he only caters to a select SMALL crowd of ppl
  • @LupeFiasco’s Fans wouldn’t have to DEMAND a release on #Wewantlazers if he made the folks at the label WANT to put the machine behind it
  • It’s all politics & bullshit… NO.. The folks at atlantic records do not want to put money behind all that emo weirdo bullshit @LupeFiasco
  • do that shit on ur own time..give the FANS some fuckin music to listen to.. put out some mixtapes..BE ACTIVE & u’ll be on a list @LupeFiasco
  • Mixtape #Weezy Meant something.. Mixtape @LupeFiasco Meant why is Weezy UP HERE, and lupe down there? Lack of supply to demand
  • Alot of people lives, situations, & freedom went into the development of @LupeFiasco it’s a damn shame to watch what he’s doing with it
  • I mean canceling a mixtape bcuz some one leaked your music has GOT to be 1 of the dumbest reasons to deprive fans of something @LupeFiasco
  • Why put yourself in position to have fans..that support u.. if u gonna treat them like shit? it’s not THEY fault ur music leaked @LupeFiasco
  • Everytime I have a conversation about @LupeFiasco it always go exactly the SAME “man dude is so good, wtf is wrong with him? why ain’t he..”
  • At the end of the day dude.. PUT OUT SOME MUSIC.. keep ur BUZZ up.. appease the fans AND THE LABELS or ur gonna get dropped @LupeFiasco b
  • You ain’t making no #Hits You go to #neptunes to PURPOSELY get throw away beats.. You ain’t putting no music out.. wtf you doin? @LupeFiasco
  • They gon start lookin at you like you dead weight @LupeFiasco then what? YOU HAVE TO DELIVER homie!! it’s just that simple
  • Cuz right now @LupeFiasco looking like a Loser.. I mean Lazer.. I mean Loser.. I mean #Wewantlazers O_o
  • How does a person that’s bred to be a winner.. become a #Lazer? @LupeFiasco this ain’t you dude..fuck them clothes fuck that rebellion
  • When @LupeFiasco 1st started buzzin at the labels ppl was comparin #FNF to like the new BadBoy or Rocafella.. Would u be able to tell today?
  • Does @LupeFiasco’s music/Brand/Marketing/Promotion/or #Wewantlazers “Movement” come anywhere close to resembling those powerhouses?
  • There’s no reason why it shouldn’t tho… He has the talent.. he HAD the funding.. he had the labels.. and he HAD the cosign @LupeFiasco
  • He also HAD the music..once upon a time..this new shit.. I can’t listen to it.. it’s not for the masses..I dont know who its for @LupeFiasco
  • Why do I care so much? Bcuz I know exactly what went into building @LupeFiasco to be where he is today.. & beyond all that.. I’m still a fan
  • And to sit here and watch all this unfold.. personal bias of Wasalu aside.. is just a damn catastrophe.. it’s ironically a @LupeFiasco
  • But it seem like the more ppl that sit by the camp fire waitin for @LupeFiasco to do, the less he does & more appalled he seems at the idea
  • So the real question is: Why the fuck you here then? @LupeFiasco Just go away if you don’t want the pressures of pleasing ppl.. 32 minutes ago via web
  • And if u gon be here.. BE HERE!! get off the high school reject Wasalu shit and get back on the writing for the black album @LupeFiasco shit
  • Call up GBall get in the attic and finish that mixtape.. put that shit out.. call up P and tell him u want a hit record @LupeFiasco
  • Call up Soundtrakk.. get in the lab & GO SEE HIM.. that nigga got some cold ass beats waiting for you but you never hear them @LupeFiasco
  • Call up Mr. Jones and tell him you BACK on yo Westside of chicago “Failure” shit & let to Craig Calman Know @LupeFiasco
  • Get ya fucking thumb out ya ass and be the Artist we all stood behind you KNOWING you could be @LupeFiasco
  • And once it finally sink in to you & you get back where u SHOULD be.. I want you to apologize to your fans for making them wait @LupeFiasco
  • Blood, Sweat, And Tears went in to you @LupeFiasco the least you could do is play the part you was selected to play.
  • I think I’ll set down off my #SoapBox now..Know that my intentions 2 @LupeFiasco were not fueled by malice but of disappointment & confusion

The Santa Claus beard fucking works. Just sayin.
The Roots have dropped another video from their latest full-length, How I Got Over. This one is called "The Fire" and features John Legend.

Well this might not be new new (I think the verdict might still be out on that one), but it's as new as you're going to get!

(Props to Nodzilla for the audio.)

This video has been out for a bit (it's from the Riverfront Times Music Showcase earlier this summer), but I didn't post it when it dropped.

Rocky's been killing it lately with this song at performances, so I had to put it up for those who may not have caught it.

Theresa Payne on the hook.

St. Louis' wildest college MC is back with the Hottest in the City Mixtape.

According to A-Game, you can find the mixtape "All Over Tha Internet".

If you need something a bit more specific, check it out here: Clicky Clicky.

Also, catch A-Game with the rest of the best St. Louis MCs on the Waitin for the DJ LIVE Mixtape. It's fuckin nice, I promise you. Catch it HERE.

Jonezy's been on his shit with these 2nd Story gigs at Llywelyn's Pub.

If you haven't caught one of these shows yet, you are fucking up. The turnout is always solid and the performances are second to none.

Check out the info on the next one right HERE.

It's DJ Innovation's birthday show too!

Mighty Mos live at the Streets 2010 Urban International Festival.

You can catch a few notables in the crowd as well, including Brother Ali and Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Beautiful footage on this video to say the least.

Since Atlantic Records has refused to offer any information in regards to the release of Lupe's new album, LASERS, for the past year or so (after Lupe confirmed that the record was completed), his fans took action by starting a petition for the album's release.

Lupe called in to BBC 1Xtra to talk the issue over with DJ Semtex.

Check the petition HERE.

Dear Atlantic Records,

The fans have been below have been waiting for the release for Lupe Fiasco’s album “Lasers” for over a good year now. Since when it was originally announced finished last summer, there has still yet to be a release date announced. It has even been stated by Lupe Fiasco the artist himself, that the album si in fact completed. Enough is enough, we demand that you stop playing around and give us the album that we have been highly anticipating since the release of The Cool.

Once again, Cudi is in some shit for attacking/getting attacked/almost attacking somebody. This time it happened when an unruly (or obsessed?) fan in Cleveland rushed the stage. Security gets the guy off pretty quick, but not before Cudi can chase him back into the crowd. The song, "Pursuit of Happiness", keeps playing in the background.

Sometime before (or possibly after, I don't really have a clue), Cudi gave the fans a taste of some new material a capella. What do you think?

And they're putting a video together for it too.
Here's what Barker had to say about it:

“The song started with RZA and I in my studio, with him playing guitars and me playing drums, just jamming out,” Barker explained. “Then I got Raekwon on it, and I showed it to Tom Morello, who was stoked on it, so he played on it. And that’s how I wanted the video to be.There was never any corny ideas [for the video],” Barker smiled. “[It's] just us rocking out. That’s what’s good about it. The track’s raw; it’s not candy-coated. … This is like ‘punch you in the face,’ real hype music.”
And here's some shots of the video shoot:

After constant changes to the release date of Ski Beatz' 24 Hour Karate School Mixtape (see the latest HERE), we finally have some new news. (Heh heh...newnews.)

Anyway, the new date is September 7th. To be honest, I didn't think it was ever going to drop as a mixtape; just figured they'd try to make it a proper album and make the $$$. Glad I was wrong.

Here's another track from it to get the video treatment. This time it's the Mighty Mos with "Cream of the Planet."

Hit it...

WTFuck? How did I miss that? Well...

Kweli hit the booth with Gucci and critics cried foul. Now, Kweli speaks back...
“I have been working on my new album, Prisoner Of Conscious since the summer began. It is a title I have had floating in my head for quite some time, but it is even more relevant right now. Hip Hop is like bipartisan politics these days. Everyone chooses sides and argues for the sake of the argument, not to actually achieve any clarity. I am a man and an artist of the people. When I say that, I do not just mean people I agree with, people who understand me or people I can relate to. I mean the people in the truest sense of the term. This philosophy, although professed by many intellectuals, is lost on them. They would rather judge the masses as a foolish body, greatly in need of their intellectual musings. Any public figure who attracts a crowd of people should be examined, and if they are smart about their business they are to be respected. Respect transcends personal taste, you can and often should respect your enemy.

Now I don’t know Mychal Smith, but what I do know is he is a blogger that follows me on Twitter, and I guess my decision to record with Gucci Mane bothered him enough to blog about it, declaring my move a part of the demise of the conscious rapper. I offer a different take. I say people like Mychal Smith are every bit as caught up in the flashing lights as the ‘ignorant’ masses they like to judge. Instead of celebrating it, they get joy from speaking against it. They truly believe not liking Gucci Mane makes them intellectually superior to say, some chick down south. They pay so much attention to what they perceive to be negative, based on a limited world view, that they miss the positive, even when it’s right in their face.”
Can't say shit to that.

(What I like about all this though - aside from the obvious - is the fact that real artists read the blogs. That's good.)

Asher's latest tape is back, this time without DJ tags (aka Fat Free).

If you didn't get it the first time, do yourself a favor and grab it now.

The first official Waitin for the DJ Summer Jam Tape is here. Be sure to slap this shit on CD-R and crank it up in the car with the windows down (unless you have the AC on - save that shit).

Also, download and/or purchase the projects available from all the featured artists. (You can get most of them for $0.)

Two tracks from Cudi's upcoming Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager have had snippets released as a teaser for the imminent release of the album. The tracks are "Mr. Rager" (produced by Kanye West) and "Mojo" respectively. Check them out below.

They sound very much like the work he put out on the first MotM.

To be honest, I don't know much of Exile's stuff outside of the work he's done with Blu, so this one will be very educational for me. I'm expecting it to be nice though.

Here's what his people have to say about the project:
Free download of Exile’s Radio (Bonus Album) in celebration of his upcoming August 31st AM/FM release via Plug Research. AM/FM will feature various producers remixing the original Radio tracks, while Blu, Fashawn, Shafiq Husayn, Samiyam, Free the Robots, DJ Day, Clutchy Hopkins, Evidence, Alchemist, Krondon, Muhsinah, Aloe Blacc, Grouch and Eligh go over the originals. The amount of submissions were so high, not everything could fit on the official AM/FM album, hence the free download.

Wasalu M. Jaco, aka Lupe Fiasco, has finally released a new album...from his British punk rock side project, Japanese Cartoon. The album, In the Jaws of the Lords of Death, features Jaco on vocals sporting a FBC (aka fake British accent).

Initially, Lupe refused to admit that he was actually the lead singer of the group, but eventually revealed himself as the vocalist through the group's MySpace page.

If you're a bit skeptical, or don't really get down with punk rock, no worries: the album is available for download completely FREE. Check it out over at the JC website @, or give it a listen below.

New track from the collaborative effort by John Legend and the Roots Crew. The new LP, called Wake Up!, drops on September 21st.

This new Cudder single ft. Kanye dropped a little while back as a radio rip. Now we've got the real deal. The new album drops on "GOOD Music Day."

Easily the most poppy track Cudi has dropped thus far. Don't really think that's a good thing.

Check it out.

Check him out doing Jay's classic "99 Problems".

After who knows how many releases with a variety of different groups, assortments, and consortiums, Black Spade has finally released his first mixtape. Props to him for doing it right.

Features include long-time favorites and collaborators Rockwell Knuckles, Corey Black, Coultrain, Wafeek, Vandalyzm and others. As expected, the tape is loaded with plenty of Dilla-evoking jams and jazz samples (Dorothy Ashby is a big hit on this one). In mixtape fashion, he includes mostly new tracks, peppered with some previously-released tracks (found originally on the Brown Bag Disc), plus a couple remixes of old favorites.

DEFINITELY don't pass this one up. After you check it out, be sure to check out everything else from the man's catalog, much of which you can find HERE.

Yesterday, I dropped a video of Eli Porter's official reimergence into the internet spotlight (check that out HERE). Eli announced his new mixtape, as well as a documentary revolving around him and his infamous Iron Mic Freestyle. Today, I received an email from Walker Warren, the man putting together the documentary, with another update. Here's what he had to say...

In the middle of working on a documentary about YouTube celeb Eli Porter + theentire 'Iron Mic' saga which is responsible for his Internet fame in the first place (if you need a refresh -, Mr. Porter decided to upload his own video update on his personal YouTube account just last night. To back up his claim that he does in fact have a documentary in the works and in a move to support his recent decision to resurface on his own accord, we've decided to unleash the trailer to our documentary a little sooner than we had expected to. Early or not, no lie; this is definitely not one to miss; I hereby present to you the trailer for "People's Champion" - The Legend of Eli Porter...
